The Eighteenth Annual Virginia Beer Blitz will be held
Saturday, March 22, 2025 starting at 9:00 AM,
with an additional single judging session on Friday, March 21, 2025,
at the
St. George Brewing Company, Hampton Virginia

The Eighteenth Annual Virginia Beer Blitz is a BJCP/AHA Sanctioned Competition and will be conducted using the 2021 BJCP Style Guidelines, including all beer, mead, and cider categories.

This year, the total number of entries will be limited to 400.

The Online Registration System is available here from

Saturday, February 8, 2025
through
Saturday, March 8, 2025

ATTENTION!
Please read this important information about BOTTLE LABELS!!

The bottle labels you print for your entries from the Online Registration System are intended to be taped to bottles using clear packing tape by you before sending in your bottles. This will help the competition staff during sorting and save the labor and waste of removing rubberbanded labels. This approach is similar to the method used in the National Homebrew Competition Final Round.

If you do not follow this approach, your entries will be set aside during sorting for "priority" inspection and handling, at a later date, by the junior staff and trainees. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Please be advised: In order to ensure that your club gets the credit for your medals towards our Blitzkrieg Award, please select your club from the drop-down list in your account.

Once logged in to your account, please consider volunteering to either judge or steward this year. There will be one session on Friday night and two on Saturday. To volunteer, visit the "My Info and Entries" section on the Online Registration System to indicate which sessions you are available to help. Thanks!

Official Rules

Entries will be accepted in ALL of the 2021 BJCP categories, including Mead and Cider. View the BJCP Style Guidelines.

Entry Deadline and Registration

Online Registration will begin Saturday, February 8, 2025 and end Saturday, March 8, 2025.
All entries must be physically received by Saturday, March 8, 2025 in order to be eligible for judging.

Entries

The entry fee is $10.00 per entry. There is a limit of 6 entries per brewer. Only one entry per subcategory per brewer will be accepted, with the exception of categories 29 (Fruit Beer) & 34 (Specialty Beer), where multiple entries will be accepted from the same brewer.

Completed scoresheets for each entry will be available for download within 24 hours of the end of the competition. The completed scoresheets can be downloaded from the Online Registration System.

Bottles and Cans

  • Entries must consist of two (2) bottles or cans, each with an attached bottle label from the online registration system. These labels are intended to be taped to bottles using clear packing tape by the entrants before submittal of the entry. This will save the labor and waste of removing rubberbanded labels by competition staff when sorting. This approach is similar to the method used in the National Homebrew Competition Final Round.

  • Each beer comprising the entry must be packaged in a can or in a plain glass bottle. Bottles must be either crown capped or corked. No swing-top bottles are allowed. Bottle caps must not have any distinguishing marks and any such marks must be completely blacked out.

  • Cans, bottles and caps must be free of anything which is sufficiently unique that it could identify a brewer to a judge. This may include labels, unique bottle shapes or the like. Please note that raised lettering commercial beer bottles ARE permitted and that the Competition Organizer has the FINAL decision on compliance with this rule and all other rules for the competition.

  • Entries not meeting these guidelines will be disqualified and ineligible for award. (They may be judged at the discretion of the Competition Organizer.)

  • Reusable containers, including "Carbonator" type devices, CAN NOT be returned.

  • All entries submitted become the sole property of the Colonial AleSmiths and Keggers (CASK).

  • No bottles or shipping materials will be returned, even if the entries are disqualified and not judged.

  • It is solely up to the discretion of the Competition Organizer if disqualified entry fees will be reimbursed.

Judging & Stewarding

Please plan on registering to Judge or Steward, if you will be able to join us for the competition.

Judging will take place at St. George Brewing Company in Hampton, VA and will begin promptly at 9:00AM. Every effort will be made to have all entries judged by qualified participants in the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP). St. George Brewing Company is located at 204 Challenger Way Hampton, VA 23666. Map to St. George Brewing Company

  6. Conversely, categories in which a large number of entries are received in each of several subcategories may be expanded to include multiple tables, or pre-judged as appropriate, to ensure adequate time is allowed for completion of the event on the scheduled date. In this circumstance, it is guaranteed that all entries WILL still be judged by registered judges for this competition.

  7. All judging & stewarding points will be filed with the BJCP by the Organizer within 72 hours following the competition (Note that the BJCP will record the points according to their regular update schedule).
